I was asked by digital agency Other Media to write a guest blog looking at the opportunity social media presents for fan engagement - as a digital, editorial and content production specialist with over 25 years experience in journalism and digital media. As a life-long, passionate sports fan, it was a pleasure.
The piece looks back at recent history - pre-dating digital media and the explosion of social in the last decade - when sports clubs had little or no engagement with their fans outside of match days.
And then examines some of the myriad ways football clubs and others interact now with their supporters.
